My Approach

My Approach

I help clients make peace with food and improve their self-esteem. From moms to thriving business owners, from recovering perfectionists and those who struggle to feed themselves each meal, my personalized approach has helped end years of chronic dieting and create positive and sustainable relationships with food, body, movement and health.

I believe that you cannot determine someone’s health by their appearance. Health and fitness can take on many different shapes, sizes and lifestyles. I do not provide weight loss programming or use weight as a measure of success. I specialize in using a non-diet, Health at Every Size approach to help clients cultivate a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.

The Framework

Holistic and Personalized Approach

We are more than what we eat and our diet includes more than just food. My patient care looks at all of the things that contribute to one’s sense of nourishment and fulfillment. It’s not just the food we consume, but all of the other factors present in our daily lives. Healthy relationships, meaningful contributions, and physical activity are essential aspects of health.

Emotional Regulation

Food is often used as a coping mechanism for uncomfortable emotions or situations. While eating for emotional reasons is part of normal eating, sometimes our judgement gets in the way of knowing when that coping mechanism is no longer working for us. When food becomes the only way we know to cope with life and soothe difficult feelings, it is a signal to take a closer look at what is going on.  I help clients learn to understand and cope with stress and other emotions by diversifying their coping strategies.

Intuitive Eating

I use this approach because it promotes flexible, individualized eating based on hunger, satiety, nutritional needs, and pleasure, rather than any externally regulated eating plan focused on weight control. It helps individuals reconnect with their body’s communication and heal from chronic dieting.

Health At Every Size®

HAES seeks to separate weight from health. It focuses on body diversity and reducing stigma associated with certain body types. It acknowledges that health is not a resource everyone has access to and it seeks to honor each individual’s inherent worth. It focuses on respectful care and interrupting the weight bias in our current medical system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Virtual Care

I prefer to see patients virtually. I prioritize making it as easy as possible to attend your appointment because talking about nutrition, habit change, and digging deep into your relationship with food can sometimes be challenging. This means you can stay cozy and casual and still make time for you! This also allows me to see patients who don’t live nearby and to have greater availability.
